Kitchen installation, Leicester

Design Brief

A compact 4m x 2m kitchen in a terraced house with an off-set chimney breast set against the rear wall. The client wanted an open, light, minimalist kitchen with clean lines and as little clutter as possible. The design had to incorporate a 900mm range cooker and accommodate a washing machine and a dishwasher. In addition, the boiler had to be hidden from view. A U-shaped layout was suggested and accepted.

Before the project commences. Kitchen had a soil/asphalt floor which had to be excavated.

Kitchen stripped out, new insulated concrete floor laid.

Battens laid prior to fitting tongue and grooved flooring.

Ceiling stripped out prior to re-boarding.

Plumbing for shower in bathroom above kitchen.

Existing fireplace in kitchen was removed and steelwork added in the attic to support the upper portion of the stack. Insulation installed prior to boarding.

Plumbing and electrics completed, the kitchen is plaster boarded.

Glazed door fitted to let in more light and mock sash window supplied and fitted.

Finished flooring being sanded prior to staining and varnishing.

A high-gloss white kitchen was specified to bounce light back into the room.

A grey stone sink was fitted with simple black worktops and splashbacks.

The finished installation. A range cooker forms the focal point of the design. Tall cabinets incorporate tambour units to hide kitchen clutter. The left hand cabinet contains the boiler.
